Extraction of starch from sweet potato
1. Pretreatment of sweet potato
a. Sweet potato weighing and conveying: This is the first step for extraction of starch from sweet potato process. The sweet potatoes are weighed on the weighbridge and stored in the sweet potato yard. Then the raw materials are transported by conveyor to the sweet potato cleaning and washing machine where the stones, sand and other attached objects are separated.
b.Cleaning and washing: In extraction of starch from sweet potato process, the main purpose of this process is to remove the sediment from the outer cortex of sweet potatoes and wash the epidermis of sweet potatoes. The fresh sweet potato is cleaned in dry sieve in which the impurities are cleaned such as sand and small stones. Then we use the rotary washing machine for removing the soil, sand and other impurities. This process is the basis of guarantee the quality of starch, the cleaner the raw sweet potatoes are cleaned, the better the starch quality is in sweet potato starch processing plant.

2. Starch extraction process
a. Crushing: The role of crushing is to destroy the structure of sweet potato, so that tiny starch granules can be disintegrated and separated from the roots of sweet potato. In extraction of starch from sweet potato process, the widely used crushing machine is rasper. The machine relies on high-speed operation to disintegrate sweet potato so that the starch granules are continuously separated. And the disintegrated sweet potato is processed into starch slurry by using water as a medium.
b. Separating: Separating section is another key process for extraction of starch from sweet potato that affects the extraction rate of sweet potato starch. Its main purpose is to separate the fiber from starch.And normally we use multi stage centrifuge sieve for the separating process so as to achieve better separating effect.
c. Protein separation: In this process, we designed a 14-stage concentrated hydrocyclone station for extraction of starch from sweet potato. And the process water is pumped from the other end of the sweet potato starch machine to wash the starch in a countercurrent manner. The multi-stage washing can ensure the washing effect of the cyclone station, better remove the impurities such as fiber and protein contained in the starch milk.

3.Starch dehydration and drying process
a. Dehydration: The dewatering process for extraction of starch from sweet potato is mainly for reduce the water content of the wet starch. By adopting negative press principle, vacuum filter can effectively reduce the water content of starch so that it can be dried in the flash dryer. After dewatering, the water content of starch milk first should be about 38%-40%.
b. Drying and packing: The wet starch dehydrated by vacuum filter is transferred to flash dryer for drying. It is required the moisture content of the finished starch is about 13.5% after drying process for extraction of starch from sweet potato. Then the starch is packed for storage. And this process requires a sufficient number of bags, a firm package, and timely storage.
